Reality Check: Dior Launches New Augmented Reality Filter On Instagram
From the iconic dog ears to the mask-like colourful overlays, it seems as though the world can’t get enough of the array of Instagram filters. The entertaining feature, which first gained traction on Snapchat before Instagram provided its own spin, has resulted in countless creative interpretations, from meme-worthy transformations to filters that resemble the eye-catching aesthetics of high fashion (some major players include Off-White, which has projected its signature quotes onto countless selfies, and Valentino, which gave the world what it wanted by making those flower lashes from Spring 2019 couture digitally accessible to everyone).
To celebrate the in-store launch of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Fall 2019 collection for DIor, the French house unveiled a new filter, now available on Instagram. Developed in collaboration with The Mill, a London-based creative content studio, the Check’N’Dior interactive filter allows its users to virtually try out different beauty looks and accessories straight from the runway.
The collection itself takes inspiration from the Teddy Girls, the '50s subcultural women who pioneered the androgynous new age with their boxy blazers, slicked-back hairstyles, and working girl flair. The filter offers a variety of styling options through which its users will have the opportunity to try on the collection's reversible checked hats lined with the iconic Dior Oblique canvas. Embellished with a veil, the hats come in three different colors: black and white, red and black, or green and black.
You also have the option of trying on the classic CatStyleDior glasses, choosing between a classic monochrome or a Swarovski crystal sparkle (which, in an age of KiraKira and dazzling artists like Sara Shakeel, is perfectly on beat). All this means if you don't feel like heading out to a Dior store, you can wear the accessories you’ve always dreamed of without leaving home. Live the experience here.
