The Santos de Cartier Watch Now Comes in Small Model
Cartier's iconic Santos de Cartier is now more feminine with a small model, which has dimensions echoing those of historical versions of the timepiece.
Have you always fancied the idea of owning a Santos de Cartier but feared that one might look too chunky on your delicate wrist? It appears that Cartier has heard you. The French Maison has just released its iconic timepiece in a small model. The house is quick to state that the new small iteration in fact has dimensions that echo historical versions of the watch — created for gents in 1904, the Santos de Cartier became the first modern wristwatch. An emblematic piece of the Maison, the Santos de Cartier is characterised by its square shape, as well as the screws that are intentionally visible as a design element, rather than hidden as is traditional in watchmaking.
The small model (27 mm x 34.5 mm), like its larger counterparts, is a study in clean lines, precise proportions, graphic shapes and precious details — it comes in all-steel, both steel and gold, and all-gold. What is new, besides the smaller dimensions, are the elegant sunray-effect dial and the incorporation of a high autonomy quartz movement, adapted to the smaller Santos. Also similar to the larger models, the new iteration is versatile in that it is interchageable with its straps, which are available in the form of a metal bracelet or a leather strap. Priced from S$8,750 for all-steel and S$14,400 for steel and yellow gold.
