Ever since her explosive US Open win in 2018, tennis champion Naomi Osaka has built an impressive repertoire beyond the court. The 23-year-old – who was named Sports Illustrated's Sportsperson of the Year in 2020 – has also steadily forged a presence in the world of fashion. Her latest venture? Joining the ranks of some of the world's greatest athletes as the face of TAG Heuer.
“I’m excited and honoured to join TAG Heuer as brand ambassador. It’s a partnership and friendship that exemplifies our shared mindset and values. The brand’s trailblazing approach with their ‘Don’t crack under pressure’ motto speaks to the way I live my life both on and off the court," shares Osaka in a press statement for the brand.
Given the Japanese-Haitian tennis star's sense of style, her appointment by the Swiss time maker is no surprise. Osaka, who describes her love for fashion as "second only to tennis", has garnered a loyal following on Instagram where she shares her bold, colourful and experimental looks. She also recently co-designed a collection for Japanese fashion label, ADEAM.
Osaka's engagement as TAG Heuer's brand ambassador comes ahead of her much-anticipated Tokyo Olympics debut in August 2021. She will be representing Japan.
As Osaka enters her 2021 season, CEO of TAG Heuer Frédéric Arnault expresses both his admiration and support: “We are very proud to have Naomi join the TAG Heuer family. Her athletic record and commitment to excellence are outstanding but even more impressive is her passionate spirit and drive for advocacy which is an inspiration to so many."
