In Prada's Galleria campaign, fashion meets ennui

In a short film shot by Xavier Dolan, Prada offers up a glamorous view of post-pandemic life with their Galleria bag.

What do you get when you put It-girl model Hunter Schafer, ascendant filmmaker Xavier Dolan and Prada — a century-old Italian luxury house — together? An unexpectedly delightful collaboration, that's what.

Prada tapped on the two creatives for their latest campaign featuring the Galleria bag. In the minute-long video, Dolan blends a touch of Old Hollywood glam with the mundanity of our post-pandemic lives: In a chaotic bedroom filled with vintage tchotchkes, Schafer models signature Prada looks for herself, poses with the Galleria on her head, and lounges in front of the TV in full runway regalia.

Riveted at the centre of the chaos is the Galleria, a minimalist zip-top handbag that recalls the rigid lines of the first women's work-bags. The Galleria was birthed in 2007, and has quickly found fans among celebs and trendsetters alike; Twice, Tiffany Young, Sunmi — just to name a few.

Beyond just a simple product shoot, the Galleria campaign film offers a sincere — and frenetic — commentary on the times we live in, and how fashion intersects. It is, as the brand itself describes, a reflection of "the obsession of our age for shifting, endlessly, from idea to idea — a sequence of micro-narratives... in constant dialogue with one another."
