How did you get started with your career as an emcee?

I have always been fascinated by performances and how it can influence responses from the audience.
Just when it seemed like a sales job was going to be my viable career choice, I connected with an ex colleague of mine who was doing well in hosting. It is through her that I was introduced to Zoom Academy Singapore, where I was trained by veteran host CKay Lim.

You were a flight steward at Singapore Airlines for four years. Did you learn anything from that experience that was useful to you as an emcee?

Being a flight steward in Singapore Airlines has definitely taught me resilience, and to strive for excellence regardless of the situation. I am grateful to my colleagues and supervisors who have guided and helped me during my time there.

How do you usually prepare yourself for hosting an event?

There are a lot of elements to consider when preparing for an event. If I were to put it into 2 steps, it would be first to work on meeting the clientʼs requirements, before adding a personal touch.

What is your favourite thing about emceeing?

I have always loved to expose myself to new ideas and new environments, where I get to not only learn but also share with the audience. The adrenaline I get from performing on stage, and the sense of achievement knowing youʼve managed to bring joy, certainly makes it feel like Iʼve got the best job.

What are some job perks that you get to enjoy?

I get to work with the most well known brands and companies, as well as inspiring startups in their corporate events. Being in the same room as many of the brightest minds and influential personalities, makes each and every show so surreal!

In your opinion, what are three qualities that every good emcee should have?

Firstly, the ability to adapt, as we are always in an ever-changing, fast paced environment.  Secondly, the ability to think on your feet.  Lastly, being tenacious despite any circumstance, producing quality work every time you step up on stage.

Who are some of your idols in the industry?

There are so many great emcees that I admire, but the top 3 that I draw inspiration from are: my “Shifu” CKay Lim, Sonia Chew, and Ravi Nadeson.

Are there any upcoming projects that you're excited about?

Of course! Iʼve got a couple of events lined up, including emceeing for a friendʼs wedding. Iʼm so honoured to be a part of their special day.
