COS Unveils Mirrored "Open Sky" Installation in Milan
Always one to amaze the world with its one-of-a-kind installations, COS has returned to the Salone del Mobile 2018 in Milan to showcase its latest artistic marvel – Open Sky.
Presented at the 16th-century Palazzo Isimbardi, the Open Sky installation is sculpted with mirror panels in a semi-circular silhouette. This transforms the Palazzo's courtyard into a grounded, physical ring of reflected sky, beautifully juxtaposing the contemporary and the historic.
Open Sky marks COS' seventh installation at the Milanese furniture and design fair — and its first collaboration with American architect-turned-artist, Phillip K. Smith III.
"The idea was to actively and seamlessly merge the beauty of the surrounding architecture and the sky over Milan, creating an ever-changing experience," explained Smith III.
The central sculpture is complemented by a series of smaller scale reflective works that occupy the Palazzo's adjoining garden, continuing the interaction between architecture and nature.
The Open Sky installation is currently on display to the public from 17 to 22 April at Palazzo Isimbardi, Corso Monforte 35, 20122 Milan.
