For a slice of Gilded Age New York, visit Harry Winston's ION boutique
As a born and bred New Yorker, Winston spent many afternoons visiting Central Park as a child and as an adult; it was said to be a place where the famed jeweller often visited to clear his head and look for a fresh perspective.
Enter the Central Park Mosaic bracelet. Made of over 550 gemstones, this gorgeous Art Deco-inspired bracelet reimagines the urban park's verdant meadows and lakes in an array of sapphires, aquamarines and diamonds. It might look blocky, the bracelet is wonderfully supple and sinuous in real life, wrapping around the wrist effortlessly.
The Cathedral Necklace
Winston's historic boutique on 51st street was located directly across from the famed St Patrick's Cathedral; the jeweller had a bird's eye view of the church from the window of his personal office. The Neo-Gothic structure — with its elaborate green-bronze roofs — was the source of inspiration for the aptly-named Cathedral necklace, an opulent creation that features five pear-shaped Colombian emeralds against a backdrop of 122 diamonds.
The City Lights necklace
Winston and his wife Edna Fleischman married in 1933, and by all accounts, they had one of those rare, legendary romances. Through their long courtship, the pair shared a mutual love for the theatre. That love is immortalised in the slinky City Lights necklace, which reimagines the lively lights of Broadway through colourful diamonds and vivid gemstones. To look at the necklace is to see a snapshot of the electric energy of Broadway at its height, captured in Harry Winston's usual style of restrained glamour.
