“Let the styling do the talking,” said Ivanho Harlim, when asked what his thought process was behind his shoot title. “XXXL is something you see everywhere in fashion right now.” Indeed, from Balenciaga to Stella McCartney, the manifestation of the mode du jour has seen the proliferation of oversized collars, large 3D design elements, blown-up shapes and loose tailoring. “XXXL resurfaced as an ‘anti-fashion’ statement, the same way it did decades ago when popularised by brands like Maison Martin Margiela and Yohji Yamamoto” adds Ivanho. “We wanted the photographs to re ect this sentiment, an ‘as-is’ aesthetic that perhaps moves away from fashion’s usual pomp.”
