Van Cleef &amp; Arpels’ Midnight Jour Nuit Phase de Lune watch emerges, intricately depicting the limitless sky and the transition from day to night

Launched in 2008 and reintroduced two years ago, <a href="https://www.lofficielsingapore.com/jewellery/exhibition-glanzstucke-van-cleef-and-arpels-high-jewellery-masterpieces-from-mak-collection" title="Exploring The Exhibition GLANZSTÜCKE: Van Cleef &amp; Arpels Jewellery Meets MAK Collection" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Van Cleef &amp; Arpels’</a> Jour Nuit collection welcomes a fresh creation that toasts to the Moon, an enduring source of inspiration for the French house. The timepiece, which poetically depicts the transition from day to night, features two overlapping complications housed within the case — the first vivifies the Jour/Nuit display, and the second “astronomical” complication illustrates the Moon phase, a feature of <a href="https://www.lofficielsingapore.com/jewellery/van-cleef-and-arpels-perlee-collection-perfectly-polished-jewellery-accessories-rings" title="Van Cleef &amp; Arpels' Perlée Collection is Perfectly Polished" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Van Cleef &amp; Arpels</a> watchmaking since 1929.
A 42 mm white gold case encircles the dial, which gleams as a black Murano aventurine glass sky. Creating the deep hue and glimmering effect, which evokes the night atmosphere, was the Maison’s Innovation Department. As the day passes, the guilloché gold sun is succeeded by a moon, crafted in white mother-of-pearl and surrounded by acrylic traced stars. Both the sun and moon appear and disappear behind the horizon, signified by a guilloché mother-of-pearl veil painted in a gradient of shades from black to white.&nbsp;

Their daily emergence and fading is enabled by the movement of a 24-hour rotating disc, which is distinctive of Jour Nuit pieces. A second disc rotates every 24 hours, 16 minutes and 27 seconds, allowing the reproduction of the 29.5-day lunar cycle. When the pusher on the rim of the watch is pressed, the dial rotates 360 degrees for approximately 10 seconds, unveiling the Earth’s satellite in its full glory.
The tale of everyday transformation ensues on the back of the case, with an engraving in white gold that expresses the Moon’s topography, while the Earth is presented in enamel tracing on the sapphire crystal placed on top of the oscillating weight. Here, the fantastic view is not perceived from the Earth, but from the Moon.
