This season, Dolce & Gabbana wants to celebrate femininity and the many facets of a woman. Which, according to Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, means a woman who “knows how to scream, laugh, and show her feelings”. What does she look like? The Fall/Winter 2019 collection shows you how.
The collection is an updated take on the signature design elements associated with the Italian house, from black lace to leopard prints, florals, and ornate embellishments. This vibrant sense of femininity permeates the collection from head to toe, and we can’t get enough of the luxe looks. But if you aren’t quite ready to wear the, uh, ready-to-wear, this season’s accessories are a great way to add a sense of 'la bella donna' to your outfit. We’ve rounded up some of our favourites below:
Unleash your inner animal with this season’s animal print accessories. Leopard prints have long been a favourite with the designers, embodying the sense of boldness and confidence of a woman at ease with herself. Two styles – the crossbody and top-handle – in the Devotion line of bags get a leopard print makeover. Crafted in printed jacquard with black leather details and glittering gold embellishments, the Devotion bags are given a further flourish with the emblematic ‘sacro cuore’ clasp, composed of a metal alloy heart inlaid with tiny pearls. Pair with matching leopard print pony hair pumps, and you’re all set to conquer the urban jungle.
The designers were one of the first to bring Baroque back into vogue. Luxe fabrics, rich colours, exaggerated details… The opulence of that period couldn’t be more in line with the brand’s aesthetic. This season’s accessories revisit the Rococo, with intricate floral details and scrolling curves applied by hand in gold. Made of black velvet with brocade sides, the Welcome bag is adorned with delicate golden flowers, with a resin top handle covered in gold leaf for a touch of extravagance. Go a step further if you dare and wear a pair of gold-embroidered heels decorated with smiling cherubs.
The culture of Sicily is intrinsic to the fabric of Dolce & Gabbana design. References to Domenico Dolce’s birthplace are an ever-present motif that can be traced back to the first few collections in the ‘80s. There’s even a line of bags dedicated to the island, with an unmistakable sculptural shape. The latest Sicily bag is a tongue-in-cheek rendition, featuring black and white polka dots interspersed with miniature red versions of the bag – the print is aptly named Crazy for Sicily. Match your bag with a pair of polka dot pumps to complete the look.
During the summer months, fields of sunflowers blossom in the central Italian regions of Tuscany, Umbria, and Le Marche. The bright and cheerful flowers make their way onto the latest bags and shoes. Hand-painted on a white background, the sunflowers create a sophisticated 3D effect on the Sicily bag. Several variations of the Bellucci pumps also come in floral printed calfskin ornamented with crystal brooches on the toe area.
