Pantsless Outfits are Dominating the Runways and the Streets
Celebrities have already approved the next fashion trend: No pants
Out: The bigger, the better. In: Less is more.
Only a few days into the new year, and there's already a celebrity-approved trend worth knowing about: No pants. The pantsless look started to circle in the fashion scene in 2022 when stars such as Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, and Kylie Jenner were all spotted rocking looks with no pants in sight. The stripped-back take on fashion isn't just applicable to street style but has already made its appearance on the red carpet as seen by Julia Fox at the 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards and Rita Ora at the 2022 London Fashion Awards.
If you need more convincing on the popularity of a pantsless look, then gaze no further than the Spring/Summer 2023 runways. Labels such as Bottega Veneta, Coperni, Tom Ford, and Miu Miu all received the no-pants memo and embraced it. With sheer dresses still as popular as ever and underwear being worn as outwear still in full swing, pantsless fashion fits right in within the current trend cycle.
Purposefully wearing no pants isn't a new thing in fashion books. Never forget in 2015 when the It look was wearing a T-shirt and nothing else. You could even go further back to the '80s and '90s when the popularization of slip dresses as outerwear became the norm or when Madonna stunned the world when performing in her custom Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra-corset. As how most trends operate, the pantsless look is an evolved modern-day reinterpretation of previous bottomless trends.
Making a case on why no pants are the way to dress this upcoming spring, L'Officiel has rounded up the top pantsless fashion moments.
