Lady Gaga Wears Schiaparelli Couture with Giant Dove to Sing National Anthem
While many have had the honour (and for some, the embarrassment) of singing the US national anthem, Lady Gaga's performance at the Presidential Inauguration for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris had special meaning.
The star, who has long been a supporter of Biden, appeared in a Haute Couture ensemble custom-designed by Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli.
Gaga's fitted navy jacket topped a flowy washed red silk faille, making the singer look more like a political ambassador than a pop star. On her chest, the musician donned a gilded dove brooch – no doubt a message of peace and unity to a country torn by political division. Like Biden and Harris' outfits, the symbolism was clearly intentional.
"As an American living in Paris, this ensemble is a love letter to the country I miss so dearly and to a performer whose artistry I have so long admired," said Roseberry, who most recently made headlines for creating Kim Kardashian's "hulk" dress for Christmas. "Maison Schiaparelli is honoured to have this chance to dress the iconic Lady Gaga on this historic Inauguration Day. God Bless Lady Gaga and God Bless America.”
The number follows Gaga's appearance last night at the Washington Memorial with fellow performer Jennifer Lopez. The A Star is Born lead posted a photo in an all-white custom cape dress courtesy of Givenchy by Matthew Williams.
Indeed, the land of the free and the home of the brave.
