In celebration of its landmark 70th anniversary, Onitsuka Tiger announced earlier this year that it would undertake a special collaboration project with 7 Japanese designers. Following in the footsteps of CINOH, KKtP, and Christian Dada, STAFFONLY is the latest label to team up with Onitsuka Tiger for the 4th stage of the project.
Shimo Zhou and Une Yea, the dynamic duo behind STAFFONLY, base their creations on the theme of ‘Protection’. Inspired by the retro track and field spike shoes of the 1970s, Onitsuka Tiger’s Serrano sneaker is reimagined with bumpy details on the toe and heel areas. Two sets of shoelaces in contrasting colours of sky blue and bright orange evoke the idea of protective wrapping, and add a quirky edge to the design.
The classic tracksuit is updated with STAFFONLY’s signature touch of irony. Instead of a zipper, the oversized top is secured with black buckles reminiscent of the fastenings of traditional Chinese robes. The collar, waist hem, and cuffs are stamped with the logos of the two brands. Both the track top and bottom feature racer stripes in the same blue and orange tones of the sneakers.
