GAP Sues Kanye West for 2 Million USD After Yeezy Project Fails
GAP filed a lawsuit against Kanye West and demanded $2 million in damages after the two parties failed to cooperate.
Recently, the GAP brand initiated a formal lawsuit against Kanye West and demanded the amount of USD 2 million related to their unsuccessful cooperation in the YEEZY Gap project . The fashion retailer has taken legal action to recover financial damages caused by the partnership's failure to live up to expectations.
The lawsuit addresses unauthorized modifications made to a rental property in Los Angeles. Court documents obtained by the New York Post reveal that Gap filed a lawsuit against Kanye West (now Ye) and his trademark last month.
The complaint revolves around Art City Center, the owner of the building leased to GAP claiming compensation because some properties have been damaged. The changes mentioned include the installation of an exterior ramp and tunnel, the removal of ceiling lights, the construction of walls and the removal of three bathrooms, as stated in the Art City Center statement. GAP firmly asserts that it is not responsible for these changes and is shifting the burden of complaints to Ye.
After the announcement of their collaboration in 2020, Ye and GAP unveiled their highly anticipated joint venture named YEEZY Gap. However, their partnership came to an abrupt end in the autumn of 2022 amidst the controversy surrounding the male rapper's remarks relating to Jewish matters. As of now, Ye has not responded, leaving the ongoing discussions between GAP and the male artist unresolved.
In June 2020, GAP revealed an "ambitious partnership" with Ye for their new YEEZY Gap collection. Although initially intended to span over a decade, the partnership concluded after only two years in September 2022. At the time of its launch, GAP had already commenced in-store retail experiences in nearly 50 of their US-based stores. Nonetheless, YEEZY Gap did not deliver the anticipated financial success to Gap.
