TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph’s 2022 Edition Is a Vision in Black and Gold
The celebrated timepiece revisits the livery colours seen in some of the finest moments of motorsport history.
Designed with the racetrack as its inspiration, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph won over fans — race drivers and otherwise — with its uncluttered dial and high-performance movements when it was launched in 1963. The yellow gold automatic models unveiled in 1970, the Heuer reference 1158CHN, further cemented the link between the collection and motorsport when Jack Heuer presented it to numerous winning drivers of its day.
The latest edition of the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph is an inverted version of the Heuer reference 1158CHN — with golden subdials against a black dial. The two-tone palette references the livery of the F1 cars of the John Player Special team from the ‘70s–80s, and the same colours also adorned the 98T Lotus of racing legend and TAG Heuer ambassador Ayrton Senna.
Crafted from solid 18K yellow gold, the 42-mm case houses a black sunray brushed dial, with gilded chronograph subdials and the second indicator arranged in a tri-compax layout. Mirroring that same gleam are the indices and hands plated with 18K yellow gold and polished. The in-house chronograph movement, Calibre Heuer 02, drives the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph, with an 80-hour power reserve.
