The Latest Miu Miu Collection Has Us Traipsing Through The Mountains
Miu Miu's Fall/Winter 2021 collection debuted in filmic fashion. Shown via an eight-minute clip, and set in Cortina d'Ampezzo in the heart of the Dolomites Alps, it tracks this season's Miu Miu girl gang as they walk along a mountainous path for a socially distanced runway show, against an almost dreamlike backdrop of soaring snow capped mountains.
In a time of Zoom backdrops and CGI, it is perhaps pertinent to note that this was no effect, but direct from Italy's Cortina slopes. Miucca Prada has also nailed down the mountaineering aesthetic this season, from faux-fur yeti boots, knit snoods, and more, with a practical, adventurous spirit, as witnessed with roomy snowboarding pants, oversized jackets and more.
But here, the language of utilitarian sportswear merges with fashion. Though we get a sample of a harsh winter at its finest, it is tinged with bright and cheerful colours that stand out in the snow such as pink, green or yellow. These strong tones come as perfect companions to the collection's natural shades of off-white, green and a wide range of brown.
A mix of lingerie tops with rhinestone applications in bright colours, contrasting with scarves and wool sweaters... The collection may be telling of a means of protection against a dangerous terrain - for when we prepare for our post-pandemic world.
But whatever the case, Miucca Prada has shown us how utility can still be the epitome of sophistication, and how the decorative can accompany us at all times, no matter how extreme the environment.
