Coach Reveals It’s Live Runway Show 'Somewhere In America'
Coach’s Fall 2022 runway show evokes feelings of home and nostalgia set in an imaginary town.
Held at Basketball City in the Lower East Side of New York, Coach’s live runway unveiled Stuart Vevers’ debuting Fall 2022 collection. Set 'Somewhere in America' – an imagined Coach neighbourhood, the show was broadcasted live on February 14th on the house’s Instagram and YouTube channels.
Evoking familiar feelings of homes and nostalgia, the show introduced quintessential Coach pieces such as leather outerwear that contrast with romantic lace and crocheted dresses, leather ready to wear pieces inspired by the leather bars of the '70s and pops of neon celebrate the House’s role in shaping the legacy of American style.
Set against a soundtrack of '70s romance remixed to '90s grunge, featured set pieces were designed to elicit the audience’s memories of American towns and choreographed vignettes to depict the daily lives of the characters living in this imaginary town. Coach’s 'Somewhere In America' show sought to tap into the audience’s collective imagination to celebrate past and future stories of American life.
"I liked the idea of creating a nostalgic world somewhere in America seen through a widescreen lens, mixing the energy of today with the nostalgia for pop culture that has always inspired me," said Vevers.
To honour his debut runway, Vevers also made sure to reference Bonnie Cashin, Coach’s first head designer, by presenting archival pieces created in collaboration with graffiti artists, Mint&Serf.
