SHANGHAI TANG Celebrates 30 Years with Extraordinary Everyday Pieces
As SHANGHAI TANG celebrates 30 years, there is no better time to embrace the Friends of SHANGHAI TANG Collection and its touches of contemporary chinoiserie, timeless elegance, and joie de vivre.
Marking three glorious decades of success since its founding, luxury fashion and lifestyle house, SHANGHAI TANG introduces the Friends of SHANGHAI TANG Collection. The range is designed by Joe Li, who was the brand’s co-creative director from 2012 to 2016, and celebrates the house’s conception in the Year of the Dragon, along with all that it proudly stands for: contemporary Asian design elements, modern chinoiserie, the joy of living, expressive contrasts, and a timeless elegance.
Li aimed to convey “extraordinary every day” and achieves it with a collection of versatile pieces that brings today’s urbanite from day to night — think blazers, silk dresses, jeans, embroidered coats, an eco fur flat jacket, and handbags. Sure enough, the house’s contemporary Asian and modern Chinese touches shine through on the styles — you’ll find references of the robes of the Qing dynasty, juxtaposed with floral and dragon motifs inspired by the European Medieval and Renaissance periods. The classic details are made fresh for the strong and multi-faceted modern woman through streamlined silhouettes as well as SHANGHAI TANG’s signature hues. Another reason why the brand and its Friends of SHANGHAI TANG Collection are both unquestionably current: All the pieces from the range are made of eco-friendly materials, emphasising the house’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.
In early October, a preview of the collection at Siam Paragon, during Bangkok International Fashion Week 2024, indeed caused the brand’s friends and fans to gather and toast to the collection’s fusion of the qipao’s grace and denim’s modernity. Happy 30th anniversary, SHANGHAI TANG!
