55-year old fashion designer Kate Spade was found dead inside her New York City apartment, reports TMZ. Spade was best known for her iconic handbag, the Sam, released in the 1990s.
After graduating from the University of Arizona with a degree in journalism in the '80s, Spade worked in the accessories department of savvy chic magazine Mademoiselle, where she later became Senior Fashion Editor/Head of Accessories. While at Mademoiselle, she felt that handbags lacked sensibility and style, which inspired her to leave and launch her own brand in 1993 with Andy Spade.
