An exclusive Louis Vuitton x Murakami pop-up is set to be unveiled by the French Maison on 4 January and will stay open until 19 January in a historic shophouse at 72 Joo Chiat Place. It will house the Louis Vuitton x Murakami re-edition collection — a celebration of Louis Vuitton’s and Takashi Murakami's collaboration that originated 20 years ago. This isn’t just any re-edition collection; it has to be the re-edition that stylistas have been waiting patiently for. Twenty years after Louis Vuitton’s then Artistic Director, Marc Jacobs tapped on Takashi Murakami for a truly iconic tie-up, which redefined fashion-house-and-artist collaborations (it was the first time the house’s Monogram had been reinvented), the Maison and Japanese artist are returning with the Louis Vuitton x Murakami collection. We’re talking about more than 200 colourful collectors’ pieces featuring the artist’s exuberant, multicoloured take on the LV Monogram — women’s leather goods and accessories, footwear, silk squares and scarves, sunglasses, fashion jewellery and even perfumes.

New styles, improved brilliance — Louis Vuitton x Murakami is no straightforward re-edition. The house says that with technological and printing advances, these new pieces present Murakami’s whimsical motifs and characters, as well as the Monogram Multicolore in a more vivid and precise manner than ever before — surely welcome progress with the interlocking Louis Vuitton and floral motifs requiring no less than 33 hues. The ever distinct Monogram Multicolore now decorates the Maison’s Speedy, Keepall, Coussin, Dauphine, OnTheGo and Koro Koro Clutch. The duo hasn’t forgotten the other well-loved Murakami characters, of course — the Superflat Panda is playful on sneakers and keyrings, while smiley flowers bloom on the Capucines bag, Petite Malle and perfume bottles. The joy of the collaboration is set to endure as a second chapter, highlighting the artist’s Cherry Blossom pattern, will be released in March.

The Singapore pop-up will feature four zones, Retail Space, Cinema, Care Station and Café, and has its design inspired by the minimal spaces of Tokyo’s distinct modular hotels. It is set to be one of just seven pop-ups that will be revealed around the world, with the other six being in London, Milan, New York City, Seoul, Shanghai, and Tokyo.
