HyunA and Dawn Give Friends A Kpop Update in Coach Forever 2

Featuring a stellar roundup of stars, the Coach F/W 2021 presentation was a blend of fashion with familiar TV shows.

If there’s anything that has brought us comfort the past year, it's rewatching some of our old favourite movies or TV shows (really - studies have shown that in times of uncertainty, watching something familiar to us can be a form of therapy). And as a mirror to the mood of our times, Coach chose to give their virtual presentation of their Fall Winter 2021 show in a series of ‘pre-show’ entertainment that has some of the top tier entertainers acting out some of our favourite pop cultural moments: HyunA and Dawn having a dance-off in Friends, Megan Thee Stallion in Mean Girls, Jennifer Lopez dancing to Blondie, and more.

An introduction to Stuart Vevers’s Coach presentation, the clips, directed by Frances Frances, with accompanying lookbook images by Juergen Teller, were steeped in nostalgia and kitsch. In one of the standout videos, K-pop stars HyunA and Dawn bring us back to the 90s in a reenactment in Monica Geller’s apartment. The real-life couple’s chemistry is evident here, as they playfully hold a dance-off in bid of getting a cookie.

Also, check out Megan Thee Stallion, who plays the resident mean girl - this time with twerking and long nails involved.

“I have always loved exploring the intersection of fashion and pop culture at Coach,” said Vevers. “I am excited to bring my latest vision for the house to life via ‘Coach TV.’ I wanted both the collection and the presentation to make sense and resonate in these unique times and I am excited to share both in a way that I hope will entertain and inspire.”

Elements of nostalgia are also found in this season's clothing. The Coach Forever program started earlier in Spring 2021, reviving past styles from the brand's archives, alongisde new garments - perhaps a compelling percursor for the future of fashion. This season, the upcycling idea is extended to upcycling bags from the '60s and '70s into newer styles With puffy silhouettes, cozy layering knits, and more, the fantasy of a safe, cozy fantasy is translated to reality via the garments.

The presentation features Jennifer Lopez, Michael B. Jordan, Kaia Gerber, Paloma Elsesser, Megan Thee Stallion, Kiko Mizuhara, Cole Sprouse, Xiao Wen Ju, Hari Nef, Binx Walton, Jon Batiste, Cordae, Rickey Thompson, Tavi Gevinson, Wisdom Kaye, Kim Gordon, Coco Gordon Moore, KJ Apa, Julia Nobis, HyunA, Dawn, Ma Zhe and Bob the Drag Queen.
