Your First Look at FENDI x FRGMT x POKÉMON Collab Celebrating the Year of the Dragon
Fendi's surprise collaboration features an adorable range of dragon-type Pokémon including "Dragonair," "Dratini," and "Dragonite".
In anticipation of the Lunar New Year, renowned fashion houses annually unveil zodiac-inspired limited collections, ushering in the festive season with style. With the Year of the Dragon on the horizon, Fendi has spearheaded a triumphant collaboration involving Fragment and iconic game franchise Pokémon, overseen by Hiroshi Fujiwara. Together, they're set to unveil an assortment of limited edition garments and handbags for both womens and mens that melds pop culture and fashion icons.
On this unexpected yet delightful collaboration, Kim Jones, Fendi's Artistic Director of Couture and Womenswear had this to say about working with Fragment's Fujiwara, "I first met Hiroshi Fujiwara in London in 1999 – and what can I say? He’s one of my idols and I love him. He’s an instigator of the Japanese club scene, its youth fashion scene and its streetwear scene. I have been in love with Japan for a long time; its influence on me and what I do is huge – Hiroshi is a major part of that.”
Fujiwara echoed these sentiments and expressed gratitude for the opportunity saying, "When Kim asks me to work on a project together, I have no reason to say no. I very much enjoyed working with Kim again, and this time also with Silvia. It was a true honor to work with the house of Fendi, a traditional brand with outstanding craftsmanship."
2024 heralds the Year of the Dragon, and Fendi has curated a selection of dragon-type Pokémon, such as "Dragonite," "Dratini," and "Dragonair," to serve as the collection's focal characters. These beloved Pokémon are seamlessly integrated with Fendi's iconic FF logo print, adorning an array of sought-after handbags like the timeless Baguette and the coveted Peekaboo Iseeu, beloved by many. The collection extends to encompass other accessories and limited clothing pieces such as wallets, cardholders, jewelry, T-shirts, and sweatshirts.
Beyond gracing the handbags, the three chosen dragon Pokémon are also presented as bead embellishments with a tassel design, exuding exquisite craftsmanship and serving as standout features of the series. Adding to the allure, a meticulously crafted three-dimensional "Dragonite" leather doll demands attention, showcasing over 30 hours of handcrafted precision, spotlighting Fendi's unparalleled mastery in leatherwork. Alongside the captivating Pokémon designs, the series showcases handbags bearing the Fragment abbreviation "FRGMT" boldly imprinted in brown and yellow hues.
As part of the collaboration, a partnership with popular mobile game, Pokémon GO was also announced with developer, Niantic. On the launch of the collab, Pokémon GO Trainers can obtain digital avatar items featuring designs from the FENDI x FRGMT x POKÉMON collection. Mark your calendars for the launch date on January 4, 2024, as this collaboration is a must-have for enthusiasts of Fendi, Pokémon, and Fragment alike.
