Chinese Actress Shu Qi is Bottega Veneta’s Newest Global Ambassador
As a Global Ambassador, she will be joining the ranks of BTS’ RM, whose appointment to the Italian brand came in March.
Italian luxury fashion label Bottega Veneta has just announced its newest Global Brand Ambassador to be Shu Qi, the 49-year-old actress known as one of the most successful Taiwanese actresses of all time. Bottega Veneta’s announcement comes just a month after Shu Qi was seen attending the brand’s Spring/Summer 2024 runway show during Milan Fashion Week.
In a campaign shot by photographer Sander Muylaert, the Chinese actress is pictured with the label’s latest launch: the new Gemelli shoulder bag. Clutching the half-moon pouch handle, Shu Qi stands with a force that feels powerful yet relaxed, made possible only by her three decades of experience as a seasoned actress. The actress, of Hong Kong and Taiwanese descent, worked with famed Taiwanese film director Hao Hsaio-hsien on three career-defining films, Millennium Mambo (2001), Three Times (2005) and The Assassin (2015).
Since Matthieu Blazy took the reins at Bottega Veneta in late 2021 as Creative Director, he has moved the brand far – arguably further than Daniel Lee did during his stint with the luxury leather house – with his “denim” leather and discreetly indulgent direction. And just this March, he revealed that RM of global pop group BTS was joining the house as a Global Brand Ambassador. Shu Qi’s appointment is the second under Blazy’s tenure and illustrates the brand’s lasting relationship with culture and the arts.
On this brand new partnership for the veteran actress, Shu Qi had this to say, "Bottega Veneta inherits the classic spirit of Italian craftsmanship, invigorated with innovative creativity and a truly global outlook. There’s a cinematic quality to the design, with a beautiful sense of texture, detail, and movement. It’s a pleasure to represent such a rich heritage and distinct creative vision."
