5 Trends Spotted At Prada's Fall/Winter 2021 Show
“Without a public, you need to be even more concentrated on what you say and to recreate an atmosphere. It’s much more difficult without people, and more difficult to show and then edit, find something that makes sense — before, it was like a promenade,” shared Miuccia Prada at the end of the Prada Fall / Winter 2021 show co-created with Raf Simons, “We will go back to reality, but we have to make sure this will not go lost and it will be interesting do both.”
Inspired by the idea of change and transformation, the designer duo questions, challenges and blurs the boundaries between the feminine and the masculine, between simplicity and complexity, elegance and practicality... With a backdrop of a soundtrack by Richie Hawtin aka Plastikman, the silhouettes evoke new possibilities of proportions, textures, and layering. Cleverly, the collection revolves around strong and unexpected notions, resulting in refreshing and daring looks. Here, L'OFFICIEL lists the 5 most striking trends of the show.
1. The blanket bag
Carried by hand or against the body, the faux fur bag is set to become your next best companion post-pandemic. After several exhausting months of battling the pandemic, the world is in need of gentleness and reassurance - and Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons has got it just right with this fur bag. Regressive, unexpected, daring, yet comforting, the fur bag is making a comeback at the cutting edge of fashion on the Prada catwalk.
2. The 2.0 platform sock-boots
After several seasons in fashion, the sock-boots gets a size upgrade: knee-high or mid-calf, printed or monochrome, they take an arty turn thanks to a thick platform and bright, radical colours.
3. Faux fur
Version XXL teddy-bear coat or shawl lined with a Prada-patterned mesh, the Italian House propels faux fur to the epitome of style. Coming in relatively neutral colors, the dramatic effects of texture and movement led Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons to choose thi as one of the flagship materials of the fall-winter 2021 show.
4. The sequins
"Clothes are explored from top to bottom - what was only ornament becomes function, what was only pragmatism becomes element of decoration. Established codes are shaken up. The obvious is re-thought, it is as well as evening dresses become utilitarian combinations, and that the structured coats take on bright colors or dress in sequins."
Too long confined to the evening wardrobe, sequins are making a comeback and could well add a little spice to our daytime looks. All-over on a double-breasted coat or hidden in the lining of a shawl, sequins will be out in full force in the coming seasons.
5. Gloves (opera, mesh, nylon, leather)
This makes the accessory of choice to avoid applying hand sanitisers every 12 seconds on our weakened and dry hands. Gloves will be out in full force next winter, and will even come with a practical small purse - true functional assets to our wardrobe! Prada gloves are establishing themselves as THE must-have after several traumatic months of fighting an out of control pandemic.
