Following a two-month whirlwind romance, the couple unexpectedly split, leaving many of us questioning what was the final straw.&nbsp;

It was a love story that nobody saw coming. After ending her six-year-long relationship with longtime beau Joe Alwyn, <a href="https://www.lofficielsingapore.com/culture/taylor-swift-matt-healy-dating-rumours-relationship-singer-1975-joe-alwyn" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Taylor Swift</a> stunned the world once rumors circled she was in a romantic relationship with The 1975 singer <a href="https://www.lofficielsingapore.com/culture/every-taylor-swift-album-era-style" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Matt Healy</a>. After two months of gossip, speculation, and various sightings together, the two have reportedly split.
<a href="https://www.tmz.com/2023/06/05/taylor-swift-matty-healy-break-up-split/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TMZ was the first to exclusively break the news</a>, though at the time there was no reported reason why Swift and Healy went their separate ways. Now, we have some answers.&nbsp;
"Taylor and Matty broke up. They are both extremely busy and realized they're not really compatible with each other," an anonymous source <a href="https://www.etonline.com/taylor-swift-and-matty-healy-split-after-brief-romance-heres-why-205842" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told Entertainment Tonight</a>. "Taylor's friends want what's best for her and aren't shocked that their relationship fizzled out since she recently got out of a long-term relationship."

The two were first linked back in early May, only a couple of months after her official split from Alwyn. Since then Healy was spotted attending Swift's <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/every-taylor-swift-eras-tour-look-outfit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Eras Tour</a> and was photographed leaving Swift's apartment together.&nbsp;
"Taylor and Matty like each other," a source&nbsp;<a href="https://www.etonline.com/taylor-swift-and-matty-healy-like-each-other-were-reconnected-by-jack-antonoff-sources-say-204192" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told Entertainment Tonight</a> shortly after the romance rumors sparked. "Taylor has a crush on Matty and they are having a good time hanging out. Matty also thinks Taylor is awesome and incredibly talented, too. They dated briefly in the past."
In late May, Swift declared to concertgoers that she has <a href="https://pagesix.com/2023/05/21/taylor-swift-has-never-been-this-happy-amid-matty-healy-romance/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">"never been this happy,"</a> amidst her then relationship with Healy. 
"I kind of feel like telling you, I don&rsquo;t know, I&rsquo;ve just never been this happy in my life, in all aspects of my life ever before," Swift said. "And I just want to thank you for being a part of that. It's not just the tour. I just sort of feel like my life finally feels like it makes sense."

However, their short-lived relationship was not without controversy. Within weeks Swift fans urged Taylor to break it off with Healy after The 1975 singer was called out for saying racist remarks about Ice Spice and having a long history of making controversial comments. For the former, Swift <a href="https://pagesix.com/2023/05/24/taylor-swift-collaborating-with-ice-spice-after-matty-healys-controversial-remarks/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">collaborated with Ice Spice on "Karma"</a>, though it's still unclear if the remix was already in the works or to appease Healy's problematic commentary.
Swift fans went as far as to <a href="https://pagesix.com/2023/05/22/taylor-swift-fans-launch-speakupnow-over-matty-healy-controversies/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">create a #SpeakUpNow campaign</a>, challenging Swift to address Healy's remarks. "Use your platform responsibly and intentionally," the campaign states. "Advocate for inclusivity, celebrate diversity, and promote empathy and understanding."
Healy dismissed the controversy, saying the comments about Ice Spice don't "actually matter" per an <a href="https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2023/06/05/who-is-matty-healy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview with The New Yorker</a>. &nbsp;He continued, "Nobody is sitting there at night slumped at their computer, and their boyfriend comes over and goes, 'What&rsquo;s wrong, darling?' and they go, 'It's just this thing with Matty Healy.' That doesn't happen."

In April Healy gave somewhat of an apology to Ice Spice while performing at one of his concerts. "I&nbsp;just feel a bit bad, and I'm kind of a bit sorry if I've offended you. Ice Spice, I'm sorry," he told the crowd.
However, Swift's ties to the backlash can now come to an end as the couple is no more. While performing in Chicago over the weekend, Swift gave a seemingly emotional performance while singing the piano version of "I Don't Wanna Live Forever." Her voice trembled when singing the lyrics "Wondering if I dodged a bullet, or just lost the love of my life?"
While sources have confirmed Swift and Healy's split, neither of the singers has directly commented about the relationship or break up.
