What to Expect from Lily James and Sebastian Stan’s ‘Pam and Tommy’
The first three episodes of the much anticipated Disney+ Original limited series will debut on 2 February.
The infamous stolen sex tape that still has the Internet in a chokehold today. Set in the late ‘90s, the eight-part limited series – titled ‘Pam and Tommy’ delves into the scandalous world of Internet pornography, celebrity privacy, the early days of technology and the origins of Reality-TV as we know it today. Starring Lily James and Sebastian Stan, the duo bravely take on the roles of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee for a depiction of one of Hollywood's most eventful moments.
Hype for the show first escalated earlier in May last year when James and Stan took to their Instagram accounts to post behind-the-scenes photos of their ‘Pam and Tommy’ disguises, shocking fans everywhere with their uncanny resemblance to the actual ex-couple as they recreated iconic poses they were known for.
In an interview with Variety this month, James and Stan talked about why they wanted to portray the duo in the series. “It’s an important story, I think, from being able to understand what the impact of that media tornado really was,” says Stan. “For them as a couple but particularly for her as a woman. I can’t imagine what having a private home video stolen from you – how that wouldn’t impact a newlywed couple.” And true enough, Anderson and Lee’s relationship took a hit after the leaked tape got around.
Now, if you aren’t familiar with the hot goss of the late ‘90s, here's the 4-1-1 before you watch the show on February 2nd.
The ex-couple’s sex tape was stolen from Lee’s safe before Halloween of ‘95. Following that, word got around about its existence and the curiosity of the contents of the tape ultimately caused its exposure; that’s not to say that it was an easy tape to get your hands on back in the day. People would’ve had to pull all the stops just to purchase it for their “viewing pleasure,” as sleazy as that sounds.
And as for the real Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee, their desire to stay away from the rehashing of their past has since been respected by the cast and crew of the show by not having them be a part of its creative process. Although both have chosen not to comment, Stan did eventually receive a prompt response from Lee: "He seemed touched and appreciative that I took the time to even reach out and connect."
The first three episodes of 'Pam and Tommy' will debut on 2 February, only on Disney+. Subsequent episodes will air weekly.
