Who can forget the riveting story of a young woman who passed off as a heir and deceived the entire New York elite set? That was exactly the story of Russian Anna Sorokin, who was released from prison earlier this February, after being found guilty in 2019 of scamming the social elite out of thousands of dollars by posing as a rich German heiress. She lived the high life, dressed in Celine and Balenciaga, and travelling in private jets, spending thousands of dollars a night in New York City's hottest restaurants. It was just a big cover, though: she promised fake wire transfers, made huge loans, and even forced her wealthy friends to pay her bills. Sounds exactly like a drama waiting to happen, right?

Well, her story has been picked up and turned into a drama by Netflix, where Ozark star Julia Garner is set to play her, and expected to be released very soon. Titled "Inventing Anna", the fake socialite is using money from the platform, which bought the rights to her history, to pay off refunds to the banks she defrauded, in addition to  $24,000USD in fines.

And now that she has been out of parole for good behaviour, Anna has been keeping busy. She has also confirmed she is working on a film crew is show her story in real life, from her own perspective, ahead of the Netflix drama.

“I’m just kind of filming everything I’m doing right now and I’m going to see what to do with it later. I just got out of prison, like two days ago. So it’s me like getting all this stuff from Sephora, me opening a bank account as soon as I get permission from my parole officer. I’m going to see my parole officer Tuesday for the first time. Things like that. It’s a way to control what I want to tell," she told Insider.
