The 5 Biggest Beauty Trends At New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2021
This fashion month is unlike any other. With a tumultuous year, the usual fanfare and spectacle of a fashion show could not go business as usual. However, it certainly went on, with intimate presentations and live-streamed events, and brands finding ways to set the beauty agenda for the months ahead.
Despite the hurdles presented by COVID-19, the same level of artistry from beauty professionals are still present, with stunning hair and makeup looks we’d certainly reference for months to come.
Floral Patterns
Cottage-core was a huge trend during lockdown, and it appears the runways took a turn for the English countryside cottage decor update as well. Anna Sui presented make-up that emphasized innocence for her collection named “The Heartland” which takes its theme from the concept of home, with minimal, natural makeup and flowal patterns applied all over the face, certainly giving an added level of whimsy to each outfit. If you want to reflect the fun and innocent side of your character, you can take inspiration from this make-up and apply small flower and leaf patterns around your eyes.
Fake Freckles
Opening the New York Fashion Week, Jason Wu centered his collection around a holiday in Tulum, where models walked along a sandy, wooden boardwalk along a landscape bunch of tropical palms. The makeup reflected this mood, with a effortless, natural look coupled with sun-kissed fake freckles, that looked extra fresh and sunkissed.
The fascinating 70s
Disco gets an edgy update here at Tom Ford, with a vibrant combination of lavender eyelids and fuschia lips. Even if you have no party to go out to right now - this look goes just as great on zoom.
Ombre eyes
Chromat came with a dramatic, vibrant collection that had similarly dramatic makeup. With the models faces covered up in masks, all attention turned towards the eyes that came in graphic eyeliner in vibrant colors. Makeup artist Fatima Thomas used MAC's Pro Chromaline Acrylic Paints in various shades with bold liner and shadow looks that faded into lighter shades of blue and yellow.
Dramatic Eyelashes from the 60s
Rodarte takes its inspiration from the 60s for its new collection, where romantic aesthetics and floral patterns take center stage. While the models welcome us with light make-up, the crucial point of the look lies in the dramatic eyelashes.
