Trendspotting: Louis Vuitton's star-studded dinner party in Malibu
What was on the style menu? Bright colours, oversized knits, and dramatic silhouettes. Hollywood's A-listers and the who's who of fashion were trending it up at the event hosted by Nicolas Ghesquière at Nobu in Malibu. Emma Roberts, Miranda Kerr, Chloë Grace Moretz, Emma Chamberlain and the Haim sisters were just a few of the attendees.
Bright colours
Whether it was an outfit or accessories, bright colours were an evident trend at the event.
Emma Roberts' outfit was an array of candylicious colours. The 30-year-old starlet and niece of award-winning actress Julia Roberts wore a Louis Vuitton striped cardigan top in shades of pink and blue that gave off major '90s vibes. The stripe print also felt like a modern interpretation of the vintage candy stripe print. Pairing it with a high-waisted, royal purple skirt featuring a thigh-high split, she completed the look with colour block wedge boots and a matchy-matchy bubblegum pink handbag.
We could not talk trends without mentioning stylist extraordinaire Jamie Mizrahi (one of Adele's favourite stylists), who was unmissable in a stunning, sunshine yellow number. The dress featured a high neck and voluminous, pleated bubble skirt that injected some serious drama into the ensemble. The stylist to the stars did not stop there – with a touch of blue elevating her ultra-chic wedge boots as well.
Award-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay got in on the colour trend as well. Her black and tan ensemble was accessorised with a bright red handbag to compliment the pop of red on her pants.
The best way to make a black and white outfit stand out? Add a splash of colour. Actress Victoria Pedretti opted for a bright, sunshine yellow handbag that worked perfectly well against her black and white look. And when paired with high boots, a little fun was added to the edgy cool-girl look.
Oversized knits
Oversized knits were all the rage and names like Miranda Kerr, Emma Chamberlain and Alana Haim all got in on this trend.
Internet personality and it-girl Emma Chamberlain was seen wearing a chunky oversized light oatmeal knit sweater over a bright white dress. Showing just a peek of her collar from the underdress, she completed the preppy-cool-girl outfit with a bubblegum pink Louis Vuitton shoulder bag. A slight hint of pink was also seen on her white Louis Vuitton heeled sandals.
British actress Emma Laird was also seen sporting an oversized Louis Vuitton cable knit cardigan in a dark navy blue with trumpet sleeves. She also had on Western-style boots in a dark tan with a white and orange colour block. A bold, graphic print that added a dose of drama to the quirky, stylish look.
Elegant, sexy and sophisticated, supermodel Miranda Kerr had on a gorgeous, oversized, statement olive green coat over her sleek black dress with gold zip accents. The former Victoria's Secret angel completed the look with white, pointed Louis Vuitton pumps.
Alana Haim, 1/3 of the pop/rock trio Haim wore a baby blue cut-out sleeve pullover from Louis Vuitton's 2021 Fall/Winter ready-to-wear collection. She looked like pastel perfection as she paired that with structured denim overalls for a country-chic look.
Metallics
Some of Hollywood's biggest names were seen donning metallics. Most notably, Chloë Grace Moretz and Jaden Smith, both of whom were spotted wearing structured, wide-shouldered metallic printed jackets reminiscent of the '80s.
Actress Grace Van Patten wore an oversized, black metallic single buttoned vest over an abstract metallic zebra print top. Her outfit had serious '80s glam vibes. The little zebra print handbag gave the look a '90s twist and a pair of knee-high boots and shorts showed a little skin, for a little contemporary edge.
Metallics were also featured in model/actress Camila Morrone's custom Louis Vuitton look. She was a vision of sheer elegance in a high waist, jacquard maxi skirt, black crop top and black pumps. The body skimming skirt was finished with a bow and crystal embellishment, accessorised with Louis Vuitton's Urban Twist Pumps that feature a metallic silver tip.
English Actress Emilia Jones went all out in silver with matching futuristic separates. The metallic ribbed knit crop top and trumpet hem skirt made a statement on its own and she let the outfit speak by pairing it with a pair of classic strappy black wrap heels.
