Gucci's beloved Diana bag gets a modern update
First presented by Gucci in 1991, the Diana bag made waves with its striking bamboo handles and sharp, defined silhouette. But the bag only attained its cult-like status in part due to its namesake – that is, Princess Diana herself. The stylish princess was pictured countless times with the iconic carryall: in crisp business wear, in jeans and moccasins, and even in sweatshirts and shorts – an ode to the bag’s versatility.
Today, Alessandro Michele presents a reimagined version of the Diana bag. The updated range brings with it a striking array of colours in three different sizes: Expect to see the Diana bag in playful shades of candy pink and baby blue, along with classic colours like black, white and tan. The addition of a new removable belt around its handles – in neon pink, orange or yellow – further underscores the bag’s newfound modernity.
The campaign images themselves are a nod to Gucci’s own heritage: The reportage-style scenes were captured outside London’s storied Savoy Hotel, where Guccio Gucci himself worked as a liftboy as a teenager.
