Step aside, denim daisy dukes- it's all about the baggy, knee-length board short that we have been seeing on the runways and the streets. Practical, effortless, what's there not to love these shorts that definitely won't be riding up during the sweaty, summer season (aka goodbye thigh chafing!)? Labels are now expressing their very own take on this British-inspired newspaper boy style and turning it into a seasonal staple.
We saw lots of board shorts styled in many ways by both the designers and fashion attendees of Copenhagen Fashion Week for Spring 2020. From coloured-blocking blazers from BRØGGER to matching hoodies and Bermuda sets from Baum and Pfergarten, the possibilities are endless!
On the streets of Copenhagen, women were embracing this style of shorts by pairing them with neutral-coloured tailored blazers or a casual button-up. There were also some who preferred to pair these tomboyish shorts, tucked in with ultra-feminine tops as well, proving that these versatile bottoms are a must-own for the summer.
Board shorts were also making their presence known on the Fall 2019 and Resort 2020 runways. At Miu Miu Resort 2020, Miuccia Prada took inspiration from the 40s and 70s, by pairing these shorts with floppy hats and balloon sleeves. While Louis Vuitton Resort 2020 highlighted board shorts as a basic by pairing it with a sculptured corset, to create a juxtaposition between the loose bottoms and tight corset.
It may be an odd choice to wear shorts during fall but brands like Tods and Chloé made it work by pairing it with knitwear, heavy-duty leather and knee boots for extra warmth. It's no doubt that these board shorts work well with almost every thing!
