YOU Actor Mark Blum Dies From Coronavirus Complications
Mark Blum, who starred in films such as Desperately Seeking Susan and the most recent Netflix series YOU, has died of complications from the coronavirus.
The 69-year-old veteran actor most recently played a bookstore owner Mr Mooney in YOU, the popular netflix drama featuring Penn Badgley.
The off-Broadway theater company Playwrights Horizons announced his death on Thursday. Blum was a regular fixture off-Broadway with roles in Playwrights Horizons.
“A wonderful, kind and generous man. And a great artist. He made NYC better in his every appearance,” theatre director Robert Falls said in a tweet.
Blum got his acting start in the Eighties, and was the cast of a variety of shows including Desperately Seeking Susa, Crocodile Dundee, Blind Date, and more.
He leaves behind his wife Janet Zarish, an actress who has appeared in shows such as Law & Order and Seinfeld.
His recent broadway credits include Twelve Angry Men, Gore Vidal’s The Best Man and Neil Simon’s Lost in Yonkers.
Various individuals have stepped up to pay tribute to the respected actor.
Madonna, who starred alongside him in the 1985 movie Desperately Seeking Susan, has similarly shared a tribute to the actor on Instagram.
The coronavirus death toll continues to rise daily as the virus spreads globally. It has affected some Broadway veterans, such as Laura Bell Bundy and Gavin Creel. A whole host of celebrities have also tested positive for the coronavirus.
