Kristen Stewart and her girlfriend are officially engaged
The actress just confirmed she is engaged to her girlfriend of two years, Dylan Meyer.
Kristen Stewart has been making rounds on the press circuit for the upcoming Princess Diana biopic Spencer — in which she plays the titular 'People's Princess' — but it seems like the starlet has plans for her own royal wedding in real life.
At an interview on the Howard Stern Show, Stewart revealed that she and her screenwriter girlfriend, Dylan Meyer, 34, had just gotten engaged.
"We're marrying, it's happening," said the 31-year-old actress. "I wanted to be proposed to, so I think I very distinctly carved out what I wanted, and she nailed it."
Rumours about their relationship first surfaced in the summer of 2019 — by October, the couple became Instagram official. "Find me under the covers hiding from the happiness police," reads the post from Meyer's Instagram account.
Stewart has always been a notoriously media-shy celebrity, making her public engagement announcement a welcome surprise. Her aversion to the spotlight is nothing if not understandable: At 12, she shot to fame after playing Jodie Foster's daughter in the 2002 thriller Panic Room, and just six years later, she was catapulted into household name status thanks to the Twilight series' popular movie adaptations.
Her four-year relationship with co-star Robert Pattinson (and the subsequent fallout) was also well-documented by the press. Of the media scrutiny, Stewart said: "I was hiding everything that I did because everything personal felt like it was immediately trivialised, so I didn't like it," she said, adding that the media would turn her into a "character" and make her relationship "into something that it's not."
"But then it changed when I started dating a girl," she said. "I was like, 'Actually, to hide this provides the implication that I'm not down with it or I'm ashamed of it, so I had to alter how I approached being in public... It opened my life up and I'm so much happier."
