Grammy Awards 2022 Officially Postponed Due to Omicron
CBS and the Recording Academy have just announced the postponement of the 64th annual Grammy Awards Show in a joint statement.
With news of the recent postponement of the 64th annual Grammy Awards Show, it seems melomaniacs will have to wait a little longer to find out who’s sweeping music’s biggest night this year. The awards were scheduled to take place on 31 January in Los Angeles but will be pushed back indefinitely until a new date has been announced.
Following the postponements of other awards shows and notable events like the Critics Choice Awards, Sundance Film Festival, and BAFTA Tea Party, the Grammys have also taken the health of attendees into consideration due to surging Omicron-related cases in the US.
“After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th annual Grammy Awards show,” says the partners in a joint statement across all digital platforms earlier today.
“The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31st simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon.”
When it comes to nominations, Jon Batiste swept the board with a whopping 11 nominations this year, followed closely by artists Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, and H.E.R. with 8 each.
