This year, the BAFTAs (British Academy Film Awards) were held in person for the first time since the start of the pandemic in March 2020 and was hosted by comedian Rebel Wilson.

While the 2021 awards ceremony were pushed back by weeks, with no nominees or audience in attendance, Britain's biggest movie night is back with a red carpet full of the biggest names in the film industry.

Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic 'Dune' led this year's list with 11 nominations, followed by Jane Campion's 'The Power of the Dog' with a total of eight nominations.

'The Power of the Dog' became a serious competitor before the Oscars, when it won in two BAFTA high-ranking categories, Best Picture and Best Director. 'The Power of the Dog' embodies Campion's ethereal and brutal western look, with the film telling the story of two opposing siblings, played by actor Benedict Cumberbatch as the brother with a strong personality.

Previously, 'The Power of the Dog' brought Campion the Silver Lion Award for Best Director at the Venice Film Festival in September 2021. Festival president Harold Matzner stated that Campion "has once again created a cinematic masterpiece."

'Drive My Car' won the category of Best Foreign Language Film

The three-hour film is set around a widower who must deal with his grief. He finds solace in the companionship of a female driver after his wife dies suddenly and leaves questions unanswered.

"I feel that the reason this movie is so loved around the world is because of the actors' honest acting and voice," says Director Hamaguchi, 43, in a press conference after the awards ceremony.

Recently, international films have been well received in the UK and US, thanks in part to the huge influence of 'Parasite' - the first non-English-language film to win the Academy Award for best picture. "And we, the next generation of Asian films, are walking through the door that 'Parasite' has opened," says Hamaguchi.
