Billie Eilish’s First Fragrance is Reminiscent of a Warm Embrace

A glorious day for Eilish stans everywhere; the singer-songwriter has just announced the launch of her very first fragrance on Instagram. Following in the footsteps of other artists like Ariana Grande and Kylie Minogue who have also stepped out of music to create their own perfumes, Eilish’s focuses on invoking the feeling of nostalgia via a gourmand of vanilla, cocoa, musk, amber, and warm spices. Think: Christmas in a bottle — or as the singer calls it, “a warm embrace.” 

“I always want people to feel nostalgia. It’s one of the best gifts that we have in life and also being sentimental. I wish I weren’t as nostalgic and sentimental as I am, but I am just obsessed with the idea of my childhood and memories,” says Eilish in an interview with ELLE.

Some may not know this, but the singer has a neurological condition called synesthesia — the ability to smell colours, making her all the more in tune with the creative process of her fragrance. In another interview with Vogue, Eilish explains: “I have a really strong nose, and since I was like a little kid, smells are all I think about. I associate everything through my nose—like, for real.” Because of this, the artist grew up associating amber-coloured smells with comfort. "It’s just very cosy to me and sensual,” she says. “It makes me want to be curled up at Christmas."

Taking from Eilish’s own appreciation for women’s bodies — particularly the neck, back and collarbones, the perfume is embodied by a sculptural bottle that’s reminiscent of Ancient Roman statues of women, made grand with a gold finish. “I wanted it to feel like you could see anybody in it, and you could be it,” Eilish says. “I like the idea that you can see the person that you are in love with in it, somehow; I feel like it could match anybody, almost — or you.”

Yesterday, the singer took to her own Instagram account to share her excitement with her fans. “I am SO EXCITED to finally share my debut fragrance ‘Eilish’ with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH,” she starts. “This is a scent that I’ve been chasing for years and years. This is my favourite smell in the WORLD. Fragrance has always been such an enormous part of my life and existence since I can remember, and it was a dream to create this scent and bring my ideas to life. This has been one of the most exciting things I’ve ever done. I can’t wait for it to be yours so soon!!!!!”

One thing’s for sure — Eilish’s excitement has gotten everyone off their seats and we can’t wait to see the reactions of fans once they've gotten their hands on their own bottle of 'Eilish' come November.
