If we’re going to be honest, there was a lot riding on Ariana Grande’s launch of her debut makeup collection, r.e.m beauty, this November. Thanks to the success of her fragrance lines – most notably her popular ‘God is a Woman’ and ‘Cloud’ perfumes, the beauty community expected nothing more than exceptional for her makeup line as well. As it seems, Grande did not fail to deliver with chapter one of her collection – titled 0.1 ultraviolet. Armed with 12 products with interchangeable purposes, this range is unlike any other makeup line we’ve grown accustomed to.
Instead of focusing on a collection that allows artists to create one kind of look (gothic, demure, dramatic, you name it), Grande’s acts as a simplified starter kit for makeup wearers to create a multitude of looks.
Though the shades are not especially unique or different from what we’ve already seen, they do work in tandem to create looks from retro to contemporary to futuristic. The best part? The colours are neutral yet vibrant enough for even beginners to play around with it.
“It means so much to me to be able to create a product line for absolutely everybody and anybody who wants to wear it and feel incredible,” says Grande. “Makeup is so personal and to have the opportunity to help people feel even more beautiful than they already are in their own skin, and also to just provide tools that support and encourage people in their creativity and self-expression is a gift that I’ll never take for granted.”
0.1 ultraviolet combines both neutrals and extremes in one collection. Taking inspiration from Grande’s own go-to makeup looks, her neutral products include the singer’s midnight shadows eyeshadow palette – housing six shades often used by Grande, iconic black eyeliner that’s a must-have to define her already prominent cat eyes, and a matte lipstick to complete the iconic Grande look.
On top of that, the more dramatic products from the collection are also no stranger to long-time Grande fans who are already familiar with her more extravagant makeup looks.
