The new Hermès Arceau 78 watch, the latest in the Arceau line, has the ease and elegant look of a timeless design. In 1978 (where the number 78 comes from), Henri d'Origny unbridled codes by giving the round case its recognisable asymmetrical fasteners inspired by equestrian stirrups and angled typography of its numerals evoking the movement of a horse’s gallop. The new “very large model”, which houses a 40mm diameter steel case, is presented today with a grained anthracite dial, cream-colored numerals and hands, as well as a natural Barenia calf leather strap.
Arceau by Hermès has been playing with different styles since its creation – a privilege of its understated design and its deliberately simple lines. Arceau 78 is equipped with a round stainless steel case, surmounted by a matt brushed steel microbilled bezel and singular equestrian-inspired asymmetrical fasteners, echoing the origins of the Maison du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.
Powered by a Swiss-made quartz movement, the charcoal-finish anthracite dial features hour, minute, and date functions at 6 o'clock, punctuated by Arabic numerals and light, cream-colored luminescent hands. This delicate contrast underlines the characteristic pattern of its sloping figures. A natural Barenia calf leather strap made in the Hermès Horloger workshops, like the case and the dial, comes to dress the Arceau 78 watch.
