Just In: Maison Martin Margiela Has Been Renamed

With the return of the formidable John Galliano and his debut collection for Maison Martin Margiela, the fashion world was abuzz on social media with photos and commentary when he presented the brand's Spring-Summer '15 couture collection in Paris. While critics and fans alike were fixated on his latest designs, another important element of the luxury label was overlooked. An image (above) posted by the brand's Instagram account revealed a simple white chair, with a white background (nothing unusual so far) but upon closer inspection, a showcard reads 'Maison Margiela Paris' – with the first name of the house’s founder 'Martin' being removed. The change appeared without much fanfare, blink and you may have even missed it. Much like when Hedi Slimane took over at what we now know as Saint Laurent, Margiela has adopted a similar move for its new creative director. True to form, Maison Margiela passed on an official press release and simply confirmed the news via a spokeperson who further noted that the new name “reflects the evolution of the house.” Looks like a quiet change seems to be just its style.
