That was the vibe channelled in Stuart Vever's Fall 2018 men's and women's collection for Coach, which was presented at New York Fashion Week.
Held at the Basketball City in Manhattan, the show left no discerning traces of the venue's state-of-the-arts basketball courts. Instead, the whole space was transformed by set designer Stefan Beckman into a haunting vision of a forest, complete with layers of dead leaves and twisted, waif-like trees.
The spooky fairytale aura didn't end there. Seeming almost spectral in their movements, models wafted through the trees in ribbons and sheer prairie dresses that billowed behind them. The models were hardly to be mistaken for nymphs dwelling in the woods, however. The softness of their dresses was sharply contrasted by the American brand's signature fabric, leather — and lots of it.
Resembling the huntress more than the hunted, the models' armour of choice consisted of leather biker jackets (if they weren't already clad in the shearling and varsity variety) and boots.
