Be the one who goes that extra mile with customised gifts this Christmas. Initials, code words, secret symbols – paint, engrave, emboss, embroider and sticker 'em up.

If there’s one thing trending this year, it’s personalisation. Have your initials painted/hot stamped/embossed onto your leather bag; switch characters for your bag with interchangeable bag straps and charms; add patches and leather stickers for that final flourish. It’s fun and you’re guaranteed to have something one-of-a-kind — so why not extend that to making your Christmas gifts extra special this year (and, hah, roadblock regifters — those ingrates!).

Here are a few ideas to get the ball rolling…

Kate Spade New York Personalisation Programme

1. Kate Spade New York has introduced a new personalisation programme for handbags, small leather goods, phone cases and jewellery. Pick a handbag, get expressive with gold metal and leather stickers, and add colourful straps and tassels for effect.

A cute video above, for inspo on how to “Give It A Twist”. Also available: monogrammed leather bracelets and jewellery engraving.

Up to 3 letters can be engraved on your Burberry perfume with the monogram service

2. You might already know that Burberry’s accessories such as small leather goods, scarves and the Rucksack (now out in new colours) can be monogrammed with up to 3 initials (or a heart of ‘&’ symbol). But did you know your My Burberry perfume bottles can also be engraved? Go ahead and make the limited edition My Burberry Festive 2016 Eau de Parfum extra special for your loved one. It’s a customised gift and a cuboid snow globe with swirling flakes of gold.

Stamped your initials on the CH Carolina Herrera Editor Tote

3. This is my personal favourite carryall for work: the CH Carolina Herrera Editor tote. I’ve chucked my MacBook and several magazines in it, and even used it for the occasional grocery run, and its shape and dainty little straps are still holding up. So, for the person in your life who schleps way too much stuff around — or simply enjoys a statement bag while traipsing across town like cool girl Olivia Palermo — a personalised version of this good looker will not go unappreciated (methinks). Two outsized initials in a choice of colours are stamped onto the front and back, and the owner’s name is hand-painted in a little script at the top left corner. Available at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands (Bay Level, L1-19/20).
