Feminism is a very complicated issue. Such a topic will arise when a person becomes a fashion house’s first female head — even more so when it’s Dior, which for 70 years past has been led by men. Shocking.
There isn’t a simple explanation for women’s rights. So it’s fair that new creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri leaves the interpretations to her audience. She does so with Dior’s new Spring/Summer 2017 advertising campaign, shot by photographer Brigitte Lacombe. The campaign is part of a larger project, The Women Behind the Lens.
It stars model twin sisters Ruth Bell and May Bell, a casting decision that shows that femininity is multifaceted. As they share the same face, we can infer one person embracing different personalities.
