“Denim is the key to any wardrobe,” says Kim Jones, the Men’s Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton. “I’ve been obsessed by vintage jeans since the age of 16, so this new denim line is a very special project. From the start, we looked to Japan, where there are all the original looms and a great technique of indigo – the true expertise of make.” Indeed, Louis Vuitton’s latest denim line is an amalgamation of the luxury label’s heritage and Japan’s advanced denim-making technology.
1)Fit is everything
In three key fits – Slim Stretch, Slim Classic and Classic Regular – the series will cater to every body shape and size there is. Besides, every denim enthusiasts worth their Selvedges will know that Japan’s raw denim has the reputation for being the best in the world, so you know you’ll get that coveted “fade” eventually.
2) The devil’s in the details
Besides the intricately, hand-placed embroidered LV logos on each pair, each wash is thoughtfully paired with complementing hardware. The grey and white washes are embellished with tonal hardware, while the classic indigo pairs channel vintage denim from the 1920s with gleaming gold rivets.
3) Old is gold (literally)
Heritage trunks from Louis Vuitton’s archives – some dating as far back as 1885 – serve as inspiration for Jone’s separate five-piece capsule collection. Two of our favourite styles, the Slim Croco and Gold Denim are in a limited production of 101 pairs only, a number in reference to the address of Louis Vuitton’s Champs-Élysées store in Paris. The Slim Croco features an exact replica of a trunk’s crocodile handles on the back, while the Gold Denim is a standout with its snazzy gold finish, a colour inspired by a copper-covered trunk from 1903.
